Sewing Mojo Returning

After a month or so of hardly thinking about sewing just before and after Christmas, a little of the sewing mojo is coming back. The twin grandchildren got twin beds that NEED quilts!  I had a bunch of string blocks in 30s reproductions made up so put them together for granddaughter's quilt...it just needs the borders put on.

I usually stall out on borders so started gathering up fabrics and cutting pieces for grandson's quilt. I've seen it called a Zipper quilt or a Stacked quilt. It's just 6 1/2" X 3 1/2" rectangles and 3 1/2" X 3 1/2" pieces sewed together and then flip flopped and sewed into vertical rows put together with a strip of background material between the rows. Easy. I've gotten this far...

The pieces are all brights with some animal prints since he loves animals. He especially loves cows...; why cows I have no idea....but search as I might I couldn't find any cow print. Not even enough for just a couple of rectangle pieces. I know I had some...maybe just a fat quarter...and it's all used up.  I think I'll get some yardage of a cow fabric I saw online and put it on the back just to make him happy.

Today I think I might make Snickerdoodles. I've been craving them for weeks, but resisted. I actually started making them on Wednesday....had the shortening and butter measured out into the bowl....when I remembered to check if I had Cream of Tartar. The recipe calls for 2 teaspoons & I found I didn't have anywhere near that on hand and I was still snowed in so couldn't just make a quick trip to the store for more. So the bowl with the shortening in it has been sitting in the fridge and I still have my craving for Snickerdoodles...time to just DO IT!!!

  2. My quilting mojo is returning also--am taking a bus to the Arizona Quilt Show in Phoenix on Friday. I always used a snickerdoodle recipe which called for shortening until I stumbled across one which uses only butter--delicious--I will share if you would like it!
