A good day

Today we had our mini Heartstrings sew-in for Nebraska. We started the day off by meeting at the Orchard Library before going to Ashfall Fossil Bed State Historical Park. Being the frugal quilters we are we wanted to all ride in one car & only have to buy one park sticker. I did my tourist's duty and spent actual money on a souvenir bag full of pretty stones. Does that make me dumb as a box of rocks?....Don't answer that!! The pictures show the large, new barn enclosing the dig, Mike Voorhies, the discoverer of the site, working at uncovering a fossil, US (Lori, Linda, Flicsha, Jennie) and my bag of rocks on a map of the excavated portion in the barn.

Next, our thoughts turned to FOOD. We found that the restaurant we planned to have lunch at is closed on Mon. & Tues. Their loss. After some discussion we headed to the "One And Only Winnetoon" to eat at Elaine's Tavern. Good food & we got to gawk at a busload of tourists. After eating we toured around Main St. fixed up to look like an old timey town. I took a lot of pictures but the gremlins got them....or maybe I accidentally made some change to the settings dial that made all the outdoor pictures' exposure totally blown out. All I have to show for that adventure is these: Outhouse Row.


After taking the scenic route back to Orchard, skipping the 3hr. $5 hiking tour of "Mars", opting instead for the free drive-by, we got back to the library in Orchard and sewed for a few hours.














Hey, I'm not in any of those!! How did that happen? he he

Even with some goofing off and silliness we managed to finish 51 blocks, enough for a quilt with a few left over. I'll set them together, quilt & bind. The quilt will be going to a boy in my grand-daughter's class who has been fighting cancer. I hear he's doing well and hopes to start 9th grade with his class this fall.
We had a good time and there's been talk of trying to get together sometime again this summer.

Don't think I'm cut out to have dogs

The dogs have gone home!! The kids picked them up a little after midnight last night. You have never seen three such happy dogs. I thought they'd wag their tails right off.

And here's Zoe, the little rabble-rouser. I'll miss that cute little face & satellite ears, but I WILL NOT miss that shrill bark. Every little noise and she would start barking and trying to incite the Labs to join her.



I never got used to them jumping up to follow me around every single time I moved. My cats watch me all the time, but they don't want to join in every time I move from one spot to another.

I did get the binding on another quilt today. One more to go for the quilt show. I think the labels are going to be the iron-on kind, I'm running out of time. The next week or so will be pretty busy....work tomorrow, budget meeting with Village Board tomorrow night, followed by Quilt Club in Ewing. Tuesday will be touring Ashfall, lunch out and sewing with some fellow Heartstrings members. The rest of the week will be routine, but next Monday I work, run my quilts to Tilden for the show and hurry back for a book signing at the library in the evening. Maybe I'll collapse after that.

Dog Sitting

My dog sitting duties began late yesterday afternoon when DS dropped off his dogs and a whole carload of dog supplies. I didn't have that much stuff when I took my kids somewhere to stay for a while!!! Here's a photo of my charges. The two labs take up most of my kitchen floor space. The little Pomeranian is just peeking over the seat, through the spindles on the side of the chair in the foreground.



I hope the kids enjoy their trip to Yellowstone. When will it be my turn? Can I take my cats to their house so they can cat sit? Uh huh, I can see THAT working. My cats would never forgive me for making them stay somewhere strange.....with DOGS yet!!!

A little of this, a little of that

These are the quilts that will go in the quilt show in Tilden in July. They still need bindings and labels, but I have time.

I just finished reading the 9th book in Charlaine Harris' Sookie Stackhouse series. Another good one. I know there's another one coming but the ending of this one really has me wondering where the story will go next. I also got the DVDs of the first season of True Blood, the HBO series based on the series so one of these days I'll just have to close the shades and have a vampire marathon. Hey, maybe that's what I can do on the 4th of July. I'm going to be home alone except for my son's dogs. I'm sure they'll enjoy vampires too. LOL The second season is starting on HBO but since I don't get it I'll have to wait for it to come out on DVD too.


A really good book that you should read if you get a chance is "The Girls From Ames" by Jeffrey Zaslow. It's non-fiction about a group of women from Ames, Iowa who have remained close friends for forty years, some of them since kindergarten and first grade, but all of them through high school. How many groups of high school friends stay close for that long? A couple of close friends maybe, but not ten of them.


I also regularly read quite a few blogs. Quilters' blogs of course, but also blogs about libraries/books, scrapbooking and genealogy. Of the genealogy ones, I enjoy Genea-Musings by Randy Seaver the most. He always includes a lot of good genealogy information, websites and tips about genealogy software. Always interesting.

The week that was

* Finished quilting the five quilts for the quilt show, measured & photographed them. Will send off the applications on Monday. Then it's on to bindings and labels.

* Wasted a good part of one day getting all the music on my MP3 player sorted into the genres I wanted which involved finding software to do batch tagging of the songs. Over 700 songs would have taken way to long to try to do each one individually. Then I recorded more, so now there's closer to 800.

* Messed around with downloading an audio book from Overdrive through the Norfolk library. Refuses to work with my Sony Vaio laptop running Windows Media Player 11 but works fine on the Dell desktop with Media Player 10. Go figure. More hours wasted and I don't think I even like listening to audio books.

* Had some promising news about a grant I had written for the Fire. Dept. almost a year and a half ago. I will say more when I know more.

* Somehow managed to lose the whole folder on my laptop where I keep all the digital scrapbooking stuff. Three months worth of free downloads.......gone. Hadn't been burned to disc yet. Some pages I had made....they were backed up. Some downloaded layout examples........backed up except for the last three mo. worth. Tell me, how does one accidentally delete a folder that holds almost 4GB of stuff. It had to have happened while I was messing with the music or the downloaded book. Those recovery programs aren't all they are cracked up to be either. Even when they claim to have recovered a file it doesn't necessarily open.........message says it's corrupted. I got a few files back but the rest are just gone, gone, gone.

* Made the presentation for the County Library Assoc. to the County Supervisors for continued funding in the next fiscal year. They always seem happy to see us, I guess because we don't get loud and abusive. Lets hope they keep the money coming.

Anyway, that's the week that was. Spent most of it spinning my wheels.

On the receiving end again

Judy L.had a drawing over on her blog for one of the new June Tailor rulers for making half square and quarter square triangles. I was lucky enough to win one of them so this is what was waiting for me at the Post Office yesterday. I am not letting myself use it until I finish the quilts I'm working on for the July quilt show entries. One still needs to be quilted and five will need to be bound and labeled. I'll probably take pictures for the entry forms before the binding gets done but my new ruler is going to be incentive to git 'er done!! Thanks so much Judy.

And over in the right-hand column is the One Lovely Blog award, given to me by Miri. It's a good feeling to know someone reads your blog and enjoys it. Stormy weather..............

We started our morning out with a bang this morning. The power went out at 4:15am & shortly thereafter we got hit with a terrific thunderstorm.....constant lightning, a steady rumble of thunder, heavy rain and very high wind. The one thing we didn't get was hail, though where my kids work in Norfolk they had hail from the storm they had earlier in the evening yesterday. My DIL was there at the time and her car has some hail dents. They get it paid off in July and wouldn't you know it, now it gets hailed on. Here's some pictures of wind damage on our property. There were quite a few limbs and some trees down all over town. Note the position of the bird house....darned lucky it didn't get smashed. Click the pictures to make them bigger.

The Quilted Kitty in Lincoln was having a sale on it's web site so I had to buy an assortment of the marbled blenders. I HAD to, I tell you. Aren't they pretty?





More thunderstorms are predicted for tonight but I sure hope it doesn't get as wild as early this morning.

No pictures...or much else either

It pretty much rained all week, plus it was really chilly. I tried to turn the heat on one morning, but it's not working, so that will be something to see to before fall gets here. The sun has finally been shining today, so I'll get to listen to lawn mowers all weekend. And I'd better get out there and pull weeds & grass out of my flowers before they take over.

I'm working on quilting, binding and labels, getting ready for a quilt show so maybe soon I'll have some finished work to show

Busy week

In addition to the Husker quilt I finished quilting and put the binding on on Tuesday, on Friday I put together a quilt top and made bindings for four quilts. Today I made backing for four quilts. Two were made of two simple lengths of fabric seamed together down the middle, one was four pieces seamed together and one is made of 39 blocks cut from cat prints & one left-over block. Just need to get the batting out to relax a little & one of them can go on the Premier.

I DID decline to take on a computer building job. While the idea intrigues, it might be better to NOT do the first one using someone elses expensive parts & pieces. I did study up on it though and I think I could DO IT. Just a little chicken-hearted. All I can say is that it will be one sweet, kick-ass system once they find someone to put it together for them.

What I also did this week-end is SKIP the whole local Celebration Days. Friday was nice out, but I was busy sewing & washing clothes & running dishes through the dishwasher and forgot all about the Historical Society dinner. There was free swimming for the kids......I don't qualify. Was running late for work yesterday morning so didn't stop at the Amish bake sale. There was a Poker Run...not my thing. There was a Cruise Night for the car enthusiasts. My husband took his '55 Chevy downtown for that....I let him tell me all about it when he got home. Yesterday and today were cold, windy and damp so I just blew the whole thing off. There was a street dance last night...cold, windy, damp. Ugh. On to today. I sure as heck didn't want to go to an outdoor church service at 8:30 this morning or do the Fun Run/Walk. Who wants to stand in the rain to watch a parade? Or stand in line in the cold damp wind to get a plate at the barbeque and then sit at a wet picnic table to eat it. I think I can safely say this year's Celebration was a flop & I'm glad I got lots of sewing done instead.

What I did today

Another customer quilt done. I also put on the binding and label. The customer is donating this one for a fundraiser.


I wonder how many of those Husker Hankies she bought. This is four quilts made out of them that I have quilted for her.

Tonight was our FCE meeting. Only four of us made it but we had a good visit before and after the business meeting. Eileen, our hostess, served a yummy rhubarb dessert with ice cream. Usually I can take or leave rhubarb but this was really good.

Sunday Sharing

I had to take a picture of my birthday cards before I put them in the trash. This way I can save the memory but don't have to keep the actual cards. Lord knows my house is already more than full.


I mentioned in a previous post that my Pfaff is all snug in her cabinet again and here she is. I had to piece some bindings just to be able to sew on her. The first thing I did when I put her back in the cabinet was to attach the Bendable Bright Light. It's one of the best inventions for the money. Neither one of my machines has the best of lights and now I can SEE when I sew. Hallelujah.


And this is what I'm doing today. It's got a t-shirt square in the middle that has the heavy rubbery picture on it so I'm going to do this one free hand in the double loop design that Mary showed on her blog this morning. I just hope I can make it look even half as good as hers. Then I'll do something in the center square to fill in places where the rubbery stuff isn't.


And that's my Sunday. I took the easy way out & got pizza from downtown for lunch. I'm so glad I finally got the hubby trained to eat it. Took some steaks out of the freezer to grill for supper. Have you ever tried the KC Masterpiece Steakhouse Marinade? Really makes a steak even more yummy than usual.

Another one of yesterday's finds

When I was in Menard's yesterday I picked up some new cushions for the Adirondack chairs setting on the little patio in front of my house. The cat obviously approves. I found some at Pamida last week and they wanted $30 ea. A little pricey. I found some online I liked but they were $60 ea. Ouch. Wal-Mart had some but the backs were too low. These were just $12.44 ea. and I like them the best. They're reversible so we should be able to get at least a season or two out of them. Some to think of it, they were my bargain of the day!

The toes are ready...............

............for summer!!!


I practically live in flip-flops in the summer so it's fun to paint the toenails. Nail polish on my fingers gets so battered that it's a waste of time.

Today's task was to go to Norfolk & pick up my sewing machine from the sewing machine hospital. It's all happy & snug in it's cabinet again. Things that haven't worked in ages are working again. It's amazing what a good cleaning & lubrication can do.

Since there wasn't so much "have to" shopping to do I could do a little looking just for fun. Came home with a pair of orange flip-flops...........to join the sparkly hot pink, sparkly lime green, sparkly black, beige & turquoise and black with blue trim ones. Also a few pairs of shorts & a couple new tops. Kind of an enjoyable day considering I was shopping.

Also bought candy for the guessing jar for the library's Summer Reading Program and a few prizes for the end of the program. When I got home I went down to the library to get book bags ready and COUNT CANDY. The program kicks off tomorrow, so it will probably be a busy day. Thank God I got all the computer stuff working right. I had a light bulb moment while I was talking to the Village Clerk & went back to my side of the building to try a couple things. It didn't all work but removing a "www" from one line of the configuration screen worked wonders. Why does it ask for it if it's unnecessary?? Just to aggravate poor unsuspecting librarians like me, I bet. (Me paranoid?? No.........)

Lovely long weekend

I hope everyone is enjoying the last of the long weekend. Since I didn't have to go to work today, and the sun was shining when I got up, I got a couple loads of wash hung out. After a week of clouds, wind & occasional rain there was plenty to do. I did have to work Saturday & since I was trying to solve some computer problems with the online catalog (unsuccessfully, I might add) I worked late. Yesterday we spent the afternoon with some of my husband's cousins out at the farm where their grandparents used to live. A great grandson owns it now. They have a few electrical hookups for campers out there & some of their family is out there quite often. Every Memorial weekend there is an open invitation for all the relatives to stop in & visit a while.

This little guy has been my buddy since last Wednesday. He's our grand-dog, Max. He's my daughter's dog & they brought him to stay with us while they are in Georgia for a graduation & some vacation days. They'll be back to get him on Wednesday.


They also brought these flowers for my birthday.



And last, but not least, our cat has found a good use for the gas grill I put at the bottom of the front steps. From this vantage point he can survey his kingdom even better than he could just sitting on the steps. Don't you think he looks pretty content and satisfied with himself?

Haven't done much quilty the past few days. Yesterday I did take my camera along out to the farm because I wanted to show hubby's quilting cousin pictures of the last few quilts I worked on. Wouldn't you know it, even though I charged up a set of batteries before I left home they were dead when I went to show her the pictures. Guess I need a couple new sets of rechargeables. Of course if I bothered to print things out things like that wouldn't happen. How on earth did we live with film rolls that had to be finished & then be sent in to be developed?

Get 'er done Sunday

This morning the sun was shining brightly early on so I was up by 7 ready to get started on the planned yard work around the front of the house. By the time I had breakfast ate and coffee drank it was still chilly, had clouded over & the wind came up. Decided to wait on the outside work & started some stuff inside. Got the blue/brown/cream squares cut for my table cover, cut bindings for three quilts and cut the sashing for the cat quilt.


Later in the morning after the sun came back out and it warmed up a little I got started on the outside. Got the row of bricks put back along the side of the patio where they had been removed when the front steps were replaced, pulled the weeds from between the bricks and spayed Roundup. Got flowers planted in the long planter and the pots in the wrought iron holder. Got the cement pavers laid where the grill is supposed to set. I wanted to get the grass pulled out of the flower bed along the sidewalk to the garage, get it dug up and the petunias planted but the little bit of water I put on it last night didn't soften the dirt up enough to do a good job pulling the grass. I soaked it good with the hose and maybe later tonight or tomorrow afternoon I can get that done.

Saturday night genealogy fun................a day late

The Saturday Night Genealogy Fun Question over on Randy Seaver's Genea-Musings blog was: What event or person inspired you to start your genealogy research? Back in Feb. or March of 2002(or was it 2003?) we had a snowstorm bad enough that I decided the library could be closed for the day so I was home playing on the computer. I Googled myself, found nothing exciting, then Googled my maiden name. I found my Dad, who had passed away in 1977. What the heck was he doing on the Internet?? His name was in my G-Grandmother's obituary because he had been a pallbearer at her funeral. What the heck was her obituary doing on the Internet?? Clicked on "home" at the site it was on and discovered that it was John Kostick's Fehmarn-Genealogy site. My Mom had told me that several of my ancestors were from Fehmarn, Germany so I emailed him with the information I had & asked if he had any more. I honestly never thought I would even get a reply, but the next morning there was an email from John with an attachment that printed out to 174 pages of information about my ancesters on the Reiss, Vadersen and Suckstorf branches of my family dating back to the mid 1300s. That was the start and I naturally just had to keep looking for more.

Such a nice surprise

Last evening my friend Flicsha stopped by and gave me this.I'd mentioned in a previous post that I wanted nice weather for my birthday. Not being able to control the weather, she brought me this pretty little candle surrounded by seashells instead. The candle is vanilla scented, one of my favorite candle scents, and it goes perfectly with the rest of my beach themed decorator items in the living room. Thanks so much, Flicsha. You made my day!

Hot off the press.........errrr, Premier

Here's my Double Delight, all quilted and trimmed. Now if I could just wave my magic wand and have the binding all finished.................Borders and bindings are always what keep me from saying a quilt is DONE.


And here's closeups of the quilting design and the back of the quilt. I really like how the "Halcyon" pantograph quilts up.









This pattern has a very nice flow to it that makes it easy to do. I did find though that I had to be very careful of the spacing of the rows so they didn't look too much like "rows." The interlocking is very subtle and there are places I could have had them a little closer together for a better effect though I don't suppose anyone but another machine quilter would even notice.

On the machine....................

In spite of the dark, gloomy day today I did accomplish a little.Got the backing made and the Double Delight loaded on the machine today. Made a few passes of the "Halcyon" pantograph and it's looking good. I really think this will be my favorite quilt yet.

I went out and cut the asparagus that should have been cut on Saturday, but in honor of the dreary and cool day I made chili for supper. And apple crisp for dessert....well, for my husband anyway. I try not to eat too many sweets.

The story was in the last post....now the pictures.

Here's the couch with the new pillows and throw, complete with the cat in love with the pillows. That picture is my "vacation in a frame" and started the whole beachy theme. I painted the walls a sand color about two years ago, and painted all the trim white. The room really needs new carpeting...that blue is looking pretty bad. Maybe this summer.This is the candle arrangement I put together out of bits and pieces from three different stores. It's amazing what you can find at Menards sometimes. The candles smelled really strong at first but now they're starting to smell really good.

When I was in Alco in O'Neill on Saturday I bought a bunch of FQs & a 1-yd. piece in the blues/tans/browns that will go with the rest of it to make a table cloth for a round lamp table I have. Years ago I bought a square Battenburg lace tablecloth & it will go over the pieced tablecloth, topped by a round piece of glass to protect it all. It's all coming together. Just need to get all those snowmen put away...they really don't go with the beach theme at all. :-)

I am soooo tired of........

Wind and chilly weather and clouds, but no rain. I SO want some nice spring weather before it turns hot, humid and unbearable. Today it's so chilly and windy out that I may make chili for supper.................how's that for almost the middle of May? What do I want for my birthday? Sunshine, 75 degrees, very gentle breeze!!!!!!!There, got that out of my system.

Last night we had our Quilt Club meeting. I was so sleepy after work that I took a short nap & was still a little cranky & dopey when I went, but perked up just fine once I was there. We always have fun when we're together, no matter what we're doing. Last night we sewed more string blocks for charity. Lots of bright colors...lime, lavender, pink, blue, yellow...they'll make a really cheerful quilt for someone. Picture here. Plus, for refreshments, we had the BEST chicken salad!! The strawberry shortcake with homemade cakes and real whipped cream was excellent too, but the chicken salad........OHHHH MY!! Guess you can tell I liked, no, loved it, right?

Stupid me, I forgot to take my really bright quilt top for show 'n tell. Maybe next time. And, maybe by then I'll have it quilted too............maybe.

When I went to Norfolk on Friday I bought some new decor items to perk up my living room for the summer. I have kind of a beachy look going and picked up a couple sofa pillows and a throw in ice blue/brown. Also did a candle arrangement...square white dinner plate from Target, brown/blue/cream pillar candles found in Menards of all places and seashells & a starfish from Hobby Lobby. Turned out cute, but the one candle sure has a strong scent. My cat has fallen in love with the pillows & her new favorite napping spot is the couch, snuggled up against one of the pillows. She loves plastic & the inner pillow sounds like there is a layer of plastic under the covering. Can you say "covered in cat hair?"

And that's been my exciting life of late.

Finished top

The piles of squares from this previous post are now this finished top, complete with cat. She's the quality control specialist around here.
It's the brightest quilt I've ever made, but it should match my oldest grand-daughters room perfectly, with its hot pink and lime green paint job. It's taken me a little longer to put together than I planned, but my deadline changed so I lost momentum a little. I thought it would be for her 8th grade graduation / confirmation and would be needed this Sat. Then I found out that Pierce doesn't make a big deal out of finishing 8th grade and her confirmation is postponed until Sept. That leaves me plenty of time so maybe this top will get put aside for a while and I'll get a few others quilted. I'd kind of like to have a few in the Tilden Public Library's quilt show this year. At least I want to if gas stays half way reasonably priced this summer so I don't go broke going back and forth.

Saturday at home

Do you know how long it's been since I had a Saturday at home???? I work at the library EVERY Saturday & can rarely get anyone else to work for me. People want their weekends, you know? Actually I was supposed to be at a Heartstrings sew-in in Fremont with a couple of friends today but plans got changed at the last minute. Life, you know?

Sooooooooooooooo I guess I'll work on my grand-daughter's quilt today. Should be able to get the borders put on. I don't even have a teaser photo of it, but I'll post one when the top is finished. Gotta tell you though, it's brighter than any quilt I've ever made before. I could have had a good bit of it done if I hadn't gotten sucked into a movie on the Lifetime Movie Channel. Now I found "The Last of the Dogmen" on AMC. Love that movie & they don't show it too often. See how productive my Saturday at home is so far? :-)

It's a little blurry. My friend Jane took it with her cell phone & didn't hold it still enough. This is some members of my quilt club working on QAYG blocks for the Heartstrings Australian fire relief project. I was hostess last week & put everybody to work. There were only four of us at the meeting but we made 24 blocks. I did another 11 the next day at home & just have to box them up & get them sent to Sue F. in MN.

Two of my grandmother's uncles emigrated to Australia from Germany & raised families there. They both settled in the Bendigo area of Victoria, right in the area where the fires were, so I guess I feel a certain connection even though I doubt if I'll ever get a chance to meet any of those distant cousins.

What I've been reading lately

I'm a librarian, I should read, right? You might think a librarian would read Literature, with a capital "L". Not me, that's what they make you read in school, I read for enjoyment and to be able to recommend books to the patrons. So here's what I've been reading the past few weeks.The Mercy Thompson series by Patricia Briggs. Think werewolves. Think vampires. Think skinwalkers. Think gremlins & troll & ogres & such.

The Sisterhood & Sisterhood, Rules of the Game series by Fern Michaels. Think righting wrongs, correcting injustice. Think really creative revenge. Keeps you turning the pages.

I also read books 1-7 of the Sookie Stackhouse series by Charlaine Harris. More vampires, werewolves, fairies & such.

By now you probably think I'm twisted & have strange reading taste, but did you know that vampire fiction is about the most popular fiction genre right now? Makes you wonder. I also enjoy reading Countryside magazine. Don't put it to practical use, but read it. Does that make me more normal??

Wow, I think that makes FOUR posts in one day!! Maybe I'm not normal after all. But does it help make up for no posts for two weeks?? Hope so.

Could it be...............a new project??

Look what's laying on my machine...........Could it be a new project?? Am I insane?? Don't I have enough projects that need finishing?? Probably, but it's so much fun to start something new. It's going to be for my oldest grand-daughter who graduates from 8th grade & gets confirmed this spring. She painted her room hot pink & lime green, and her favorite color is purple. Would you believe I bought FOUR pieces of purple fabric before I found the right one. Needless to say, I have plenty of purple in my stash right now.

I like to sew really fast, pedal to the metal, but this project is going to go a bit slower than I like. My poor Pfaff has to go to the sewing machine hospital. It needed servicing but somehow decided to jump out of time, so it's REALLY time to go in. Guess it thought it had to take matters into it's own hands or I'd just make it work & work & work, without it's spa treatment.
I'll have to put this current quilt together on my cute little Brother machine that I got to take to quilt club & as a spare machine. It sews very well but it just pluuuuuggggggggggggs along, even at it highest speed setting. I'm just glad I have it, slow or not. Otherwise I'd be in a real pickle & everything would be at a standstill.

Another one quilted

This is the customer quilt I finished on Friday. I quilted it in the "Bayside" pattern with gold MaxiLock thread. I hadn't quilted with MaxiLock before but decided if it's good enough for Bonnie Hunter it's good enough for me. It worked out very well. My Premier liked it and the stitches looked as good as any it's ever done. I'll be using it again. I really like how this pattern looks on the back side of the quilt too.

Long time, no post

I didn't even realize I hadn't posted since April 5. Time sure flies whether you're having fun or not.

We had a nice Easter last Sunday. We went to our daughter's house for noon dinner. She had her in-laws there too so it was a full house. Plenty of food, as always. I'd managed to lose two pounds the week before Easter, but by the time we had the big dinner & the leftover pie I took home was eaten, it all came back. Actually I finally got up the courage to weigh in yesterday..........those two are back, plus two more. Diet city for me.

Since our grandson's sixth birthday was Tuesday we also celebrated it on Easter Sunday.
Here he is with his SpongeBob cake: According to his Mom, he's a big SpongeBob fan now. Hailey, my middle grandchild, used be crazy about SpongeBob too, but she told me she's "not so into it" any more. Guess that's what growing up does to you.

Spring in Nebraska

Here's the scene that greeted my this morning looking out my front door. That drift is probably 20-24 inches deep.This next photo is out the living room window.It looks more like January than April. Good thing we still have week to Easter or the Easter Bunny would have to break out the snowshoes. I'm SO ready for spring.

Ohmygosh..............

It's a freakin' blizzard out there!!! Too dark to take a picture, but if we aren't buried by morning I'll get one then. So much for hoping this storm would pass us by like others have.

Our poor indoor/outdoor cat was sleeping in the house during the day & when he had to go out to potty it had been storming for a while. I gently encouraged him out the door with my foot. When I opened the door a few minutes later you should have seen him streak around the corner & in the door. Didn't know he could move that fast in that much snow. Anyway, he didn't do his business then & he's been miserable since. Finally made hubby go out to the garage & get the second litter pan so I could fix up his own potty for him. He doesn't like to share the indoor cat's box. He's sleeping in his favorite chair now so maybe he did what he had to do. I'm just thankful I'm not expected to make a trip out to an outhouse. There's something to be said for modern plumbing.

The lights keep blinking so I'm afraid we might lose our power before all is said and done. The snow is so heavy and wet, with the wind blowing like crazy. I usually turn the heat down at night but I think tonight I'll leave it turned up. No sense having the house already chilly if the power does go out & we lose the furnace.

The best I can say is that at this time of the year the snow won't last too long. I just hope everyone who had to be out on the road got to where they were going and are warm and safe.
